I went from 39 mbps TO OVER 200mbps!
I've always been a fan of TP-Link being that I have their wifi card in my PC and it works wonders! But after purchasing this router as well as the Docsis 3.0 combination for my Time Warner (Now Spectrum) internet, I love this brand even more. I've attached pictures to show. With time warner, I was paying for 200 mbps. While using the modem provided to me by time warner, I was averaging 38mbps on wifi. You can see how that can get a little frustrating, especially with three other roommates who stream material constantly on multiple devices. Finally I had enough and purchased this router. With this router, when I took the speed test by Ookla, I AVERAGED 196mbps! Download! I couldn't believe it. And that was with just the router. Immediately I purchased a compatible modem: TP-Link Docsis 3.0 ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01CH8ZNJ0/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER ) and wow... Here are the before and after picture of both modems, same router. Speed Test on Time Warner Website (Before and After) 96mbps with Time Warner (Spectrum) modem TO 236.51mbps with TP-link Docsis 3.0 modem (Both with TP-Link AC1900 router) Speedtest by Ookla (Before and After) 188.66mbps with Time Warner (Spectrum) modem TO 235.07mbps with TP-link Docsis 3.0 modem (Both with TP-Link AC1900 router) Definitely worth the buy. And you'll save monthly on your internet bill. It was very easy to set up as well.

I've upgraded to this router from a Buffalo Air-station. This router is simple to use and easy to set up and the range is mind blowing. On the 2.5ghz band, this router can cast out a signal to about 500 ft (from the 2nd floor, from inside my house). Great for wifi access around the backyard or to my neighbors house across the street. It has separate guest network access for both the 2.5 and 5ghz bands... Just point the antennas to the direction you want the signal to go and it sends out a focused beam to your awaiting devices. It has a built in DNLA server and my attached 2tb USB drive is easily accessed from my network without having to use complicated network configuration settings. The NAS feature allows the use of NTFS formatted USB hard drives, and the speed of this router is impressive. The TP-Link web interface is a breeze to navigate though and allows for advanced routing capabilities. The only downside to this router is that DD-WRT firmware cannot be installed on U.S. versions. Other than that, this is a great router for the average home or small business user who need a simple to manage, yet feature packed router.

I purchased this router for 2 things. First It had an MTU setting that a lot of routers don't.
Why is this so important? If you use a VPN with l2tp or pptp and experience a lot of disconnects and failed downloads you can reduce this to greatly improve connection. My Asus does not have this feature.
On the other hand the 2.4GHz range is less than my asus (6-10 db less) and the 5GHz is slightly more.
Maybe the Asus has better beamforming or something. I also had the same weak signals with the 800mW Amped wireless.
I am keeping this though since the VPN performance is excellent. However it does not support openvpn so bear that in mind.

Very impressed with the TP-Link AC1900 so far. Its setup was very easy. As an advanced user it was nice to be able to configure the router exactly how I wanted it. Had it up and running within about 15 minutes despite updating several settings.

Its performance has been terrific. For whatever reason, I had wireless connectivity issues with a Netgear WNDR4500v2. Every few days, the router would bog down and I'd have to power cycle the router to restore connectivity. I also had weird issues when using my iPhone/iPad with the unit.

Since upgrading to the TP-Link router, I've had no such issues. It's been working for a few days now with no downtime and no weird glitches with the iPhone/iPad.

The AC1900 has a very clean, professional configuration user interface. A few minor gripes is some of their terminology. They describe "Port Forwarding" as "Virtual Servers" -- still trying to figure that one out. The last firmware update has a couple of minor glitches where the interface told me I had to reboot the router -- but the reboot button didn't accept any input. Simply restarting the browser did the trick. (This was in the Virtual Server section in fact.) Another minor gripe is that you can't disable or adjust the brightness of the front-panel LEDs. They're quite bright in a dark room. I simply covered them up with smoke-colored plastic.

All in all, I'm very pleased with the router. I also like the physical design of the unit. It's very stable and I prefer the antennas in this manner. The unit comes with a pretty hefty DC wall-wart. Its power cord is a little short -- I had to buy an extension cable so I can route it properly. Oh and since this model is the HP version, it does consume quite a bit of amperage -- hence, it'll drive up your electricity bill slightly. ;o)

      NOV 2016 UPDATE:

I haven't had one issue with this TP-Link router so far (knock wood.) It's a perfect mate with my iPhone 6S+ (and now 7+) which works flawlessly. No more flakey issues compared with my old Netgear router.

PS. I noticed (2) people have said my review wasn't good enough for them. Leave a comment if you feel this way. I won't argue specifications but at least have the respect to say why you don't agree with my review. Thank you.

I shopped for a Gigabit router for a couple of weeks both locally and online. Seeing a wide range in prices I was unsure about buying one to replace my aging Linksys router that had served me well for the last 6 or 7 years. Prices sure have changed in that time. Was looking at name brands like Linksys and Asus but was discouraged by the prices. I saw this router for less that $100 and did not recognize the name so passed it up thinking that it would not last long. Long story short I would up giving it a go because the others were just more than I was willing to pay for a descent router.

It arrived quickly and in good packaging so I hooked it up and turned it on. It synced with my cable modem quickly and I was online. Set up the Wi-Fi password and setup log-in and off I went. The speed is what I was expecting from a Gigabit router with 2 computers and a voip phone connected and have not experienced any hiccups or dropping like I was having with the old Linksys. The name may be unfamiliar to me but so far I have not had any issues with this router.

I see the price has now risen $30 on this units but it still seems like a good deal to me. I've had it online for 4 months now and not one hiccup and no slowdowns, I've even used the Wi-Fi for streaming to 2 tablets and a phone without any buffering needed. All in all I'd recommend this router if your looking for a reasonable priced mid ranged Gigabit router.

Great router! fast as hell. Easy to set up. the USB feature is nice, now my house has its own cloud storage (basically). I can plug a hard drive or thumb drive into this thing, and any device on my wifi can have access to that storage which is amazing...
OR you can hook up a printer and make it wireless,, which means you can save bundles on a printer.
The range is great, it doesn't like walls, but no router does.
      Looks great.
      Small footprint.
Doesnt take long to reboot should you need to do that

This is by far the best router I have ever owned

      Pros:
      - very stable and reliable
      - remains fast without needing to be reset
      - runs DDWRT perfectly which adds many features not available on the stock firmware
      - very strong 5ghz signal

      Cons:
      - the stock firmware is a little disappointing but should be fine for the average user

4.0 out of 5 stars Good router that improved wi-fi signal, not so good printer support
Reviewed in Canada on January 11, 2018
I bought this as a gift and help set it up. This was an upgrade from the Cisco DPC2325 and helped solve a reception problem in the house. It did increase the reception and increased the speed. The only setting I can recommend is changing the frequency bandwidth? from 20hz to 40hz. After changing this setting the speed increase was very noticeable. All in all this router was easy to set up and improved the wi-fi signal throughout the house AND it was affordable.

As a plus, I was able to connect & share a Canon MX330 printer to the router. The only critique I had about this router (maybe the TP-Link printer USB software) is that the printer software does not scan if your printer is connected? And the software does NOT tell you to remove your current printer (Devices & Printers) if you have it installed before installing the TP-Link USB software. Also, I have to reconfigure the TP-Link usb software every time I want to print. It seems the TP-Link usb software only connects to the router & printer when you start it up, but it does not continuously check.

Update: After using this router for over a month, I've discovered that I cannot print after 1-2 weeks of the router being online. To fix this I have to reboot the router. I don't print on a daily basis, but when I do I power up the printer and try to print a document, it fails because the router cannot communicate with the printer? The router does see the printer, but it can't complete the print jobs.

Port-scanned every 25s, filling up an error log and crashing the machine in 4 days under the weight of the log. No matter how I configured my old D-Link 605 with IP range blocking incoming spam from US, Germany, Ukraine, hackers could get through the router and attack my server. They had some backdoor through it.
This new router fixed all my issues. It's also much faster and multi-band. I've had it running for a few days and there has been no intrusion since.
      Kudos.

1.0 out of 5 stars Good enough for your grandmothers wifi network - but that's about it. Not recommended.

The signal broadcast strength and reception is outstanding. But the firmware sucks. It was slow as molasses and wouldn't properly connect to my wifi in wireless bridge mode. When I tired to update the firmware with the newest version it wouldn't work - nothing I tired would get it to accept the firmware update. As a result of this I sent it back to Amazon and put TP-Link on my naughty list.
